Ahoy!
I’ve made a few casual tutorial videos for some of you, explaining how to do certain things on your website, and you seem to enjoy them.
So, I wanted to try creating some general how-to videos that you might find useful.
I would really love to hear your feedback. You can comment below and let me know what you think about the video itself, this particular tutorial and any other topics that you might be interested in.
I may end up uploading these to a video streaming site like YouTube or Vimeo, but for this sample, I’m just going to host it myself.
~ Disclaimer! ~
I made a bunch of mistakes when speaking in this tutorial. The main thing I noticed that I mixed up the terms “update” and “back-up” a number of times [how embarrassing!], but I’m going to leave the video as is for now.
If you find anything confusing, please let me know in the comments!
1. Make sure your website is backed up before installing updates.
If you’ve worked with me on your website, I’ve probably installed the UpdraftPlus plug-in and set it to automatically run weekly backups. I didn’t explicitly mention this in the video, but I usually wait and do my updates after my weekly automatic backup runs. But you always have the option of running a manual backup in UpdraftPlus.
2. Be patient.
Wait for the updates to complete before leaving the page.
3. After installing updates, check your site.
This is a good habit to get into any time you make any changes to your website. Take a tour around your site to make sure everything looks and works as expected.
